My observations about online bidding

Well we finally got the online bidding system up and running. It's taken a while and I am sure there will be a few things to change as we go but so far it's working great and is really exciting. I think this is going to be a great way for people who can't make it to our sale to bid but most of all it will keep people up to date and in touch with what is going on with the bidding.

We are really looking forward to the next two weeks and the bidding with this new system. I think that you will have fun with it too. Everyone can follow along and see what EACH calf is doing. I am sure that everyone has a different bidding game plan. Some will bid right away and keep bidding. Some will wait until that last day or minute and then jump in. Some may even give the proxy bid system a try. If you are not familiar with the proxy bidding system it makes it possible for you to put in the amount that you are willing to spend and let the computer bid for you. It is completely private and nobody but you will know what your proxy bid is...except for your computer I guess! LOL! Anyway, that way you don't have to worry about doing any bidding after you enter a proxy bid. You just have to worry that your proxy bid was not enough to get your favorite calf. Of course you can always change your proxy bid if you desire.

I would like to say that if you are going to bid online and you are not able to make it to see the calves in person that I would encourage you do find somebody that you know and trust to take a look for you. I have great faith in the soundness and future of every one of these calves and that they are everything that is represented in the pictures and video but you really can't entirely judge a calf by a photo. I think there are calves here that are actually way better than their pictures!

So I hope that all of you bovine cyber-geeks will have a good time following this thing along. I know that I am having a blast watching the bids jump. Just don't think for a minute that your favorite calf may not be the crowd favorite because the price isn't changing. There may be ten people out there that want that calf but are not going to jump in immediately. I just think this makes it so much easier for everyone and more fair and understandable. I also hope that if anyone has any questions about any of this that you will feel free to ask questions.

And for you non cyber-geeks...I still have a cell phone and I would love to talk to you to take a phone bid. In the end we will contact all current bidders and let you know when the final bidding will take place on your calf. So enjoy...and GET TO BIDDING!!!
